Anastasios Karatasos

Anastasios Karatassos (* 1766 in Dobra (Macedonia ); † January 21, 1830 in Nafpaktos ), was from 1790 to 1821 ARMATOL of Südmakedonien and one of the heroes of the Greek struggle for freedom 1821-1829.

Karatassos participated in the preparations of the liberation war and joined in the spring of 1822 openly against Ottoman rule on. As a military leader, he fought in the attached Naoussa against Turkish supremacy, one of his sons was killed, his wife with three children fell into slavery.

His son, Dimitrios Karatasos (* 1798), commanded the rebels in 1841 and 1854 in Macedonia, then was first adjutant of King Otto, in 1856 governor of Argolis. He died in 1861 in Belgrade on a tour to prepare for a general uprising against the Turks.
