Anastasius Sinaita

Anastasios Sinaites, also Anastasius Sinaita (* 630, † after 700 ), was a monk and ecclesiastical writers.

Anastasios, born in Amathos (Cyprus), was a presbyter and monk at Saint Catherine's Monastery ( Sinai ), the hospital he was in charge. He also developed an extensive literary activity, in which he devoted himself to the defense of chalzedonensischen orthodoxy and pastoral problems. Many of his sermons, writings and speeches have been preserved, and were reissued in recent years.

He is venerated as a saint. His feast day is 21 April.

The two eponymous bishops of Antioch on the Orontes, Anastasios ( 559-599 ) and his successor Anastasius ( 599-610 ), are sometimes referred to with the name Anastasios Sinaites.
