Anatoliy Kaminski

Anatoly Vladimirovich Kaminski (Russian Анатолий Владимирович Каминский; born March 15, 1950 in Balei, Soviet Union ) is a Transnistrian politician.

Life and career

Anatoli Kaminski was born in 1950 in Balei in the east of the Soviet Union. In 1957 he came to the Moldavian SSR. He studied engineering in Odessa. After completing his studies he conducted a dairy in Leowo and a dairy combine in Rybnitsa.

In 1990, the Transnistrian Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic was proclaimed, Kaminski belonged immediately to the supporters of secession of Transnistria from Moldova. After the de facto independence of Transnistria, he worked in local politics and sat on the city council of Rybnitsa, in 2000, he was elected as a deputy to the Transnistrian parliament.

In June 2009, Kaminski was speaker of the Transnistrian parliament. In the Transnistrian presidential elections in 2011, he entered as a candidate of the party renewal. In the first round he landed with 26.3 % of the vote in second place, before the longtime incumbent Igor Smirnov. It came to the runoff between Kaminski and Yevgeny Shevchuk. Although Kaminski was supported by Russia, he was defeated with 19.88 % significantly in the runoff. In June 2012, he resigned from his position as Speaker of Parliament. Mikhail Burla of the opposition party Renewal became his successor. Kaminski is also a member of the Transnistrian parliament.
