Ancy-sur-Moselle

Ancy -sur -Moselle is a commune with 1407 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and the canton of Ars- sur -Moselle.

Geography

The community Ancy -sur -Moselle is located on the left bank of the Moselle between Metz and Pont -à -Mousson. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine.

History

The town was first mentioned in 876 as Anceiacum, but is much older.

1871 to 1883 it was known as Ancen on the Mosel, then Ancy on the Mosel. 1915-18 and 1940-44 the name was Germanized in Anzig. At the liberation in September 1944, the town was badly damaged.
