Andean mouse

The Andean mouse ( Andinomys edax ) is a living in South America rodent species from the group of the New world.

Andean mice have a stocky body, they reach a body length 14-17 cm and a tail length of 11 to 15 centimeters. The weight is 80 to 90 grams. Their fur is colored white gray on top and dark brown on the bottom.

These animals live in the Altiplano region in southern Peru, western Bolivia, northern Chile and northwestern Argentina. They occur at altitudes 1700-4900 meters. There are nocturnal animals that often live on rocks or in thickets. But you can also climb trees and build nests there. Their diet consists of green plants.

The Andean mouse is not at risk, according to IUCN.
