Andelnans

Andelnans ( formerly Andelnach German ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Andelnans is located on 347 m, about four kilometers south of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the Burgundy gate, on the eastern edge of the broad valley of the Savoureuse, in the here opens the valley of the Douce, on the slopes of the Südwestfuß Bosmont.

The area of ​​4.17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). History

Is first mentioned Andelnans in 1302. The place name probably derives from the personal name Adolenus or Adelenus. The Priory Froideval has been called since the mid-14th century. The monks were particularly specialized in the treatment of eye diseases. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Andelnans reached the mid 14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 Andelnans belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Attractions

A chapel stands in the cemetery, but Andelnans is ecclesiastically dependent on Danjoutin. The Calvaire dates from the 19th century and the Mairie ( Municipal House ) from the early 20th century. From the former priory Froideval few remains are still visible.

Population

With 1254 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Andelnans one of the smaller communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the region between 280 and 400 people, a strong population growth was recorded from 1975 to 1982, with the population more than doubled. Since then, the population has decreased again, there was a decrease of almost 20 % was observed. The settlement area of Andelnans has grown together with that of Danjoutin.

Economy and infrastructure
