Anders Ehnmark

Anders Ehnmark ( born June 2, 1931 in Linköping ) is a Swedish journalist and writer.

Life and work

Anders Ehnmark grew up in a family of academics. During his humanities studies, which he completed at the University of Uppsala in 1960, he began to write for the newspaper Expressen. He has worked among others in the culture department of the leaf and as a correspondent in Rome and Kiruna. The early seventies, he spent a year with the communist newspaper Norrskensflamman in Luleå. Later he was i in the politically left-leaning magazine Folket Picture / cultural front employed, but mostly he worked as a freelance journalist. Since 1995 he is again regular contributor to the Expressen.

In addition to his publications in the press, he published in book form reports on, among others, Cuba, Angola and Guinea- Bissau, which were greatly respected in Sweden. His books on Niccolò Machiavelli ( 1986), Erik Gustaf Geijer (1999 ) and Antonio Gramsci (2005) have earned him the reputation of being one of the best essayists of his country. As a left-leaning thinkers he played for five decades in the political process of opinion formation in Sweden a significant role.

Became known Ehnmark through his collaboration with the writer Per Olov Enquist. The two friends wrote several plays together, about Chez nous (1976). In their joint novel Doctor Mabuse nya testamente (1982; German Title: Man in pool / Doctor Mabuse New Testament ) are characterized Ehnmark and Enquist a critical and satirical picture of the Swedish welfare state.

Anders Ehnmark is married to journalist Anna Hagstrom since 1976. For his work he was awarded several prizes, including with the Övralidprisen (2002 ) and the essay prize of the Swedish Academy (2010). In 1992 he received an honorary doctorate in philosophy at the University of Gothenburg.
