Anderson County (South Carolina)

Anderson County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Anderson.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern South Carolina, is bounded on the southwest by Georgia and has an area of 1962 square kilometers, of which 102 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Pickens County, Greenville County, Laurens County, Abbeville County, Elbert County ( Georgia), Hart County (Georgia ) and Oconee County.

History

Anderson County was formed on December 20, 1826 from parts of the Pendleton District. It was named for Robert Anderson, an officer in the Revolutionary War.
