Andiast

Andiast ( [ andɪ̯aʃt ] / i;? Until 1943 officially called Andest ) is a municipality in the district of Rueun, District Surselva the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It lies on the southern slope of Anterior Rhine Valley and is part of the Surselva.

Until the 1980s, a small farming village with no commercial or industrial, Andiast today is a small ski resort with easy access to the ski resort of Breil / Brigels and Waltensburg / Vuorz. Andiast is in the Romansh language area of the Canton of Grisons.

Julietta and Quiricus is dedicated to the parish church of Andiast; Julietta was shown already in the municipal seal.

History

Like a grave find from the summer of 1962 proves to the pastures, the area was inhabited by Andiast already in the early Iron Age. The first written reference 765 in the will of Bishop Tello. Among other things, a court ( curtis ) is listed with the hearing Maurelius, Dominicus and Donatus.

On September 8, 1526 Andiast was separated from the parish Waltensburg and raised an independent parish. This meant that in Andiast - unlike Waltensburg - never came up trends for the introduction of the Reformation.

On 8 and 9 October 1799 the village fell into the vortex of the war, when the Russian Field Marshal Suvorov with his famished army in storm and snow, the French pressure evasive, was pushed over the 2400m high Panixerpass. They also broke into Andiast and looted the village.

The municipality was renamed in 1943 by Andest on their Roman names Andiast.
