Andornay

Andornay is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Andornay situated at an altitude of 311 m above sea level, 8 km east-southeast of Lure and about 20 km west of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the eastern part of the department, increased slightly east of the lowlands of Rognon, on the western edge of the heights of the Chérimont.

The area of ​​1.48 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside of southeast of the level of Lure. The western border is always along the Rognon, which provides for drainage over the Scey to Ognon. The Alluvialniederung is on average 300 meters and has a width of around 500 meters. From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward to the hill of Andornay, on the 329 meters, the highest elevation of Andornay is achieved. It is consisted of arable and meadow land. In the east it is flanked by the valley of the Clairegoutte (inflow of Rognon ). In geological- tectonic terms, the area consists of a alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

Neighboring communities of Andornay are Magny- Danigon in the north, Clairegoutte in the east, Magny- Jobert and Lyoffans in the south and Palante in the West.

History

The village was founded before the 14th century. Is mentioned in a document Andornay in 1467 under the name Endreney and 1484 as Andulnay. The place name derives from the Germanic personal name Andernus and means as much as Hofgut of Andernus. In the Middle Ages Andornay belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Granges. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Andornay is a member of the 22 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure. Andornay does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Lyoffans.

Population

With 209 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Andornay one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​78-120 persons, a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid- 1970s. Since then, the population has more than doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Andornay was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration of Belfort -Montbéliard.
