András Benkei

András Benkei ( born September 11, 1923 in Nyíregyháza, † August 13, 1991 in Budapest) was a Hungarian communist politician.

András Benkei was born in 1923 as the son of a day laborer. In August 1944 he was called up for military service and came in January 1945 in Soviet captivity. In 1950 he joined the Party of the Hungarian working people, whose successor, the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party was.

From 1959 to 1985 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Party. Of 3 December 1963 to 24 April 1980, he held the office of Minister of Interior.
