Andre Dirrell

Andre Dirrell ( born September 7, 1983 in Flint, Michigan ) is an American boxer.

Amateur

Dirrell was one of the most successful amateur boxers of the United States. In 2001 he won the U.S. Championships (U -19) at lightweight, the U.S. Championships Featherweight, the U.S. Challenge Featherweight and the National Police Athletic League in the light welterweight. In 2002, he was defeated by Lamont Peterson in the quarter-finals of the U.S. Championships and won a bronze medal at the National Golden Gloves in Light Welterweight.

In 2003 he was U.S. champion in the middleweight division and won again at the U.S. Challenge. After winning the American Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tijuana, he was nominated as the U.S. representative for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. After two clear victories in the first round him a brief 12:11 - point win was the quarter-final against Cuban Yordanis Despaigne, he was still inferior in the first round of the Pan American Games in 2003. Professional career
