André du Bouchet

André du Bouchet ( born March 7, 1924 in Paris, † 19 April 2001 Truinas, Drôme ), was a French poet, translator and art critic.

Life

In 1941, he left France because of the Second World War and studied in the United States at Amherst College and Harvard University comparative literature. In 1948 he returned to France. His first book of poems appeared Air 1951.

You Bouchet also translated foreign literature into French. His translations of Celan's poems were praised by this. Celan also broadcast a poetry book you Bouchet, Dans la chaleur vacante, into German. These translations appeared in 1968 under the title Vacant embers.
