André Gagnon

André Gagnon ( born August 1, 1942 in Saint-Pacôme/Québec ) is a Canadian composer, pianist, conductor and actor.

Life

Gagnon had piano lessons at Léon Destroismaisons and studied from 1957 to 1961 at the Conservatoire de musique à Montréal at Germaine Malépart, Clermont Pépin and Gilberte Martin. With a scholarship from the Government of Quebec in 1961, he studied in Paris with Yvonne Loriod and took courses in piano accompaniment and conducting.

From 1962 to 1969 he worked as an arranger and accompanist to the singer-songwriter Claude Léveillée and worked on most of his recordings with. He also worked as a companion of Jacques Blanchet, Pierre Calvé, Renée Claude, Claude Gauthier, Pauline Julien, Pierre and Monique Létourneau Leyrac. He also appeared in the CBC television series Cri - Cri from 1962 to 1964 as a piano accompanist, and was from 1966 to 1970 musical director of Moi et l' autre series. He also appeared between 1965 and 1975 in several films as an actor. Later he worked occasionally as a cinematographer and film producer.

In 1969, Gagnon in London the cycle Mes Quatre Saisons in the style of Vivaldi, for which he used themes from songs by Jean -Pierre Ferland, Félix Leclerc, Claude Léveillée and Gilles Vigneault. At the Expo '70 in Osaka, he belonged to the artistic representatives of Canada. He toured France (1975-1976), Mexico ( 1976) and the USA ( 1979). In 1978 he presented a show at Massey Hall in Toronto.

In 1977, the National Ballet of Canada in the O'Keefe Centre in Toronto his ballet Mad Shadows ( based on the novel La Belle Bête by Marie- Claire Blais ) on. After a concert tour with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 1981, he appeared in Venezuela, Mexico, Romania and Greece. 1989 Gagnon has performed with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra under Kazuyoshi Akiyama. He took in the following years, several albums for the Japanese market and undertook in 1991 and between 1996 and 2003 several Japan tours.

1990 took place at the Opéra de Montréal, the world premiere of his romantic opera Nelligan ( to a libretto by Michel Tremblay ) instead. In a symphonic instrumentation of Gilles Ouellet, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted under Jacques Lacombe 's work in 1995 again.

Gagnon composed numerous film scores and music for television series, as well as disco and Poptitel as Neiges, Smash, Chevauchée, Surprise, Donna and Movements. Between 1978 and 2003, he received, among other awards for ten record productions a Félix Award. In 1978 he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada.
