André Pirro

André Pirro ( born February 12, 1869 in Saint- Dizier, Haute- Marne, † November 11, 1943 in Paris) was a French musicologist and organist.

Life and work

Pirro received his first music lessons from his father Jean Pirro. In 1889 he went to Paris, where he attended organ classes of César Franck and Charles -Marie Widor at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1896 he became a teacher for organ and music history at the Schola Cantorum. Since 1904 he also taught at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Sociales. In 1907 he received his doctorate at the Sorbonne, where he became a lecturer in 1912, 1930 and 1935, associate professor of music history.
