Andrea Bargnani

Andrea Bargnani (born 26 October 1985 in Rome ) is an Italian professional basketball player. He plays for the New York Knicks in the North American Basketball League National Basketball Association, is 2.13 m tall and weighs about 114 kg.

Career

Italy and Europe

Bargnani began his professional career in 2002 / 03 with the Stella Azzurra Rome in the 2nd Italian basketball league Legadue, and scored in his first season 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds per game in 23 games. For the 2003/04 season he signed a contract with Benetton Treviso in the Italian league Serie A 1st, one of the top clubs in Europe, with whom he could play in the Euro League for the first time. In 2006 he won the Rising Star Trophy as the best U -22 player of the 2005/ 06 Euro League season. He also already completed games for the Italian Junior and U-20 national team.

In Treviso, he played a very important role for such a young player. Bargnani drew attention to himself when he claimed against the Raptors star Chris Bosh in a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors. In that game on 20 October 2003 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, he took 22 minutes to 13 points, got five rebounds, one steal and blocked two times the opponent.

NBA

As the first European player Bargagni was in the 2006 NBA Draft selected in the first position. Here, the Toronto Raptors secured on June 28, 2006, the rights to him. Bargnani had a good rookie season with 11.6 points on average, making it a place in the NBA All- Rookie Team secured. He also participated in the Rookie Challenge at the ALL- Star Weekend in part as a rookie. He succeeded in the 2008 /09 season as a sophomore. Bargnani improved in the following years. 2010-11 he had with 21.4 points per game his best season. He finished the season with 19.5 points per game on it from, but he missed due to injury much of the season. After he continue due to injury missed many games and his performances schwächelten, the Raptors decided in the summer of 2013 to transfer Bargnani to the New York Knicks.

Technology and reputation

His strength is that he is extremely versatile despite its size (2.13 m ) and for a so-called "7- footer" (players from 2,13 m) has a particularly unerring throw. Unlike many other players his size, especially score in basket close, Bargnani has a long reach and is also considered as a very good three-point shooter. Because of these abilities, above average for his height mobility and its above-average ball feel, Bargnani was compared early with the German player Dirk Nowitzki.
