Andrea di Bonaiuto da Firenze

Andrea di Bonajuto, Andrea Bonaiuti or Andrea da Firenze ( * 14th century in Florence, † 1379 in Florence) was a Florentine painter.

Life

Andrea de Bonajuto is 1346 as a member of the Florentine guild of physicians and pharmacists, which also included the painter proved. 1355 he went to Pisa, where he was around for 10 years. On his return to Florence he received from Buonamico Guidalotti, a wealthy citizens of Florence and patron, commissioned to paint the chapter room of the Dominican monastery of Santa Maria Novella. The concept of the cycle of paintings in which the theology of the Dominicans reflected, Thomas Aquinas honors and the Christian faith is allegorical, probably comes from the Dominican friar Jacopo passavanti of Santa Maria Novella. From 1365 to 1367 Bonajuto was involved in the planning for the Florence Cathedral. After a short stay in Orvieto 1375 he returned back to Florence, where he painted a panel painting of St. Luke for the monastery of Santa Maria Nuova. In 1377 he received a commission to paint an altarpiece in Pisa and a fresco for the Campo Santo, which has not survived.
