Andrea Guarneri

Andrea Guarneri ( * ca 1626, † December 7, 1698 ) was an Italian luthier with a workshop in Cremona.

Andrea Guarneri was a pupil and assistant of Nicola Amati from 1641 to 1646. He built violins for Amati again from 1650 to 1654. His early instruments are made on the basis of the "big Amati " shape, but they do not achieve the quality of his teacher. Especially Andrea Guarneri violas are among the most coveted instruments. Of particular note, the so-called " Conte Vitale " in 1676 and a body length of 41.5 cm and the so-called " Primrose " of 1677, which was played by William Primrose.

His grandson Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù was the most famous member of the violin family of farmers Guarnieri.
