Andrea Gyarmati

Andrea Gyarmati [ ɒndrɛɒ ɟɒrmɒti ] ( born May 15, 1954 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian swimmer.

She comes from a loving family swimming. Her mother Éva Székely had become 1952 Olympic champion over 100 m breaststroke, and her father Dezso Gyarmati won with the Hungarian water polo team three times the gold medal at the Olympic Games.

Andrea Gyarmati was the late sixties and early seventies, the best European swimmer in the butterfly layers and back and was at the European Championships 1970 European Champion in the 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 she won the 100m butterfly, joined the company as favorite, "only" bronze and 100m backstroke silver medal.

From 1968 to 1972 she was chosen in each case to Hungary's sportswoman of the year and added to the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport in 1995.

Andrea Gyarmati is married to the kayak Olympic champion from 1968 Mihály Hesz.
