Andrea Suppa

Andrea Suppa (* 1628 in Messina, † 1671 ) was an Italian painter and architect of the baroque in Sicily.

Life

In Messina he was first the pupil of Bartolomeo Tricomi and then of the Flemish painter Abraham Casembroot (* in Bruges in 1594, † 1658 in Messina). His classmates at Casembroot were Filippo Giannetto and Domenico Guargena. His frescoes and panel paintings painted Suppa mostly in the ecclesiastical order in Messina and the surrounding area. His pupil was in Messina Antonio Bova ( 1628-1771 ).

Many of his works were destroyed by the earthquake of 1908.

He also provided the design for the Santuario di Monte Vergine of Messina, which was implemented in 1654.
