Andrea Vanni

Andrea Vanni ( Andrea di Vanni d' Andrea Salvani, * 1330 in Siena, † October 2, 1413 ) was an Italian painter and politician in Siena.

Life

Andrea Vanni, was born as the son of Andrea di Vanni ( Salvani ) and Giacomo di Vannuccio who marry 1329. His brothers were Francesco and Cristoforo, both painters were also. Even he was with Petra Tavene, daughter of the notary Blasius Tavene, married and had a daughter, Antonia. 1480 he took over the sponsorship of the son of Cristofano Guidini (* 1345 in Siena, † 1410 ibid.). The first mention in writing Andrea Vanni 1349. Vanni was under the influence of Simone Martini and the brothers Ambrogio and Pietro Lorenzetti. Vanni belonged to the circle of friends and students of St. Catherine of Siena. In 1353 he opened together with Bartolo di Fredi an art workshop ( Bottega ), since 1355 he was a member of the guild Arte dei pittori in Siena. His political career began in 1363 in Montalcino as Castellano del cassero. 1369 he took part in the election of Senators and a year later became a member of the Gran Consiglio della Repubblica (Great Council of the ( Senese ) Republic). Another year later, he held the office of the city Gonfaloniere third of San Martino. In 1373 he was Minister of Siena when Pope Gregory XI. in Avignon, then he accompanied to 1377 the office of Provveditore Biccherna di Siena. A year later he became a member of the Balia, another later Capitano del Popolo. Approximately 1383 to 1385 he worked in Naples as an ambassador and painter and painted in Sicily. Vannis best works are in the Duomo of Siena and the portrait and the fresco ( 1375 ) of St. Catherine at the San Domenico Monastery. In Santa Maria della Scala, he left in the Compagnia di Santa Maria sotto le Volte works Cristo benedicente and Sibilla che predice ad Augusto la di Cristo birth (fresco in the sacristy of the Compagnia ). Andrea Vanni died on October 2, 1413 or 1414 in Siena. Prior to his place of death was not located in Siena, because he was missing from the register of San Domenico, later the grave was located in the cloister.
