Andrea Zani

Andrea Teodoro Zani ( born November 11, 1696 Casal Maggiore, near Cremona, † September 28, 1757 ) was an Italian violinist and composer.

Life

Zani received his first violin lessons from his father, an amateur violinist. Thereafter, he received lessons in composition from Giacomo Civeri, a local musician and violin lessons at Hofviolinisten Carlo Ricci. The acting in Mantua not far from Casal Maggiore Kapellmeister Antonio Caldara heard Zanis game and invited him to accompany him to Vienna. Between 1727 and 1729 met Zani in Vienna, where he worked as a violinist in the service of the Habsburgs. 1739 he returned to Italy and worked in his home as a concert organizer, music teacher at an orphanage and in various noble houses.

Work

Zani's works are marked by Antonio Vivaldi, but somewhat less expansive. His late works illustrate a detachment from the Baroque through to pre-classical elements. Most important are the art-loving Count Rudolf Franz von Schönborn Erwein dedicated cello concertos from the Schönborn collection of music Wiesentheid. Zanis symphonies called the musicologist Eugene K. Wolf as the first mature works of their genre.
