Andreas Ernst Gottfried Polysius

Gottfried Polysius ( born November 27, 1827 in Dessau, † April 21, 1886 ibid; Complete name: Andreas Ernst Gottfried Polysius ) was a German locksmith master and founder.

Family

Gottfried Polysius was born born the only son of Gottfried Polysius and his wife Louise Polysius storm in Dessau. His father was manager of the ducal sheep farming in Dessau. He married Louise Amelang, daughter of timber merchant and musician Gottfried Amelang and the Leopoldine Amelang born Schmidt. With her he had two sons: Otto Polysius (1863-1933) and Max Polysius ( 1870-1932 ).

Life

Polysius first visited the ducal school in Dessau. He realized that could bring him the opportunities emerging industrialization and learned the locksmith trade. The Apprenticeship led, inter alia, it in Switzerland, London and Paris. Easter 1859 he opened, now master locksmith, with an Apprentice workshop in Dessau and thus laid the foundations for the later companies that G. Polysius AG. Gottfried Polysius first produced safes.

On May 23, 1870, he founded the G. Polysius iron foundry and machine factory, which established itself with self-designed and efficient mills in the then burgeoning construction materials industry. The production began with 32 workers. In addition to safes Göpel and vibrating screens were built. 1875, the company delivered the wrought iron gates of the Ducal Palace in Dessau. The shared love of music and theater led to a friendship with his sovereign, Duke Friedrich I of Anhalt. In addition to the Duke he was the only one who could knock off at rehearsals in the theater.

From 1876 the production of threshing machines, saw-mills and steam engines began. In addition to these agricultural machinery produced Polysius also flour mills, brewery and distillery. In addition, Gottfried Polysius acquired a patent for an upsetting and welding machine. In particular, he became involved in the emerging beet sugar industry.

On April 29, 1883 Polysius was appointed Commissionsrath. During a performance of Tannhäuser in his beloved Dessau Court Theater Gottfried Polysius died on April 21, 1886 of a heart attack.
