Andreas Gryphius Prize

The Andreas Gryphius Prize was first awarded in 1957 in Dusseldorf, then awarded since the beginning of 1990 by the artist Esslingen in Glogau in the name of the great son of the city Andreas Gryphius. The Literature Prize authors and translators were excellent, their publications German culture and history in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe reflect and contribute to the understanding between the Germans and their Eastern neighbors. The price was worth 25,000 DM. In addition, a doped DM 7,000 special prize was awarded, which could be awarded as scholarship.

Because of austerity measures the financial support of the artists guild was set in 2000 by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media. The price was therefore no longer awarded in the following years. Once a prize has been funded by a private foundation, the award was presented again a year from 2009.
