Andreas Katsulas

Andreas Katsulas ( born May 18, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri; † 13 February 2006 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Katsulas was born in 1946 in St. Louis, the son of Greek- American parents. He studied theater at the St. Louis University in 1969 and received his master's degree in theater at Indiana University in Bloomington. In 1971 he joined Peter Brooks Centre International de Recherche Théâtrale ( CIRT ) in Paris, an organization and theater formation, whose aim was to develop new experimental forms of theater. He remained there for 15 years until 1986, and played at this time at numerous international theater festivals and theaters in Africa, Asia and Europe.

His first film appearances was Andreas Katsulas 1979 in the French film Série Noire and the Greek- German co - production Milo Milo. In 1986, he moved to Los Angeles and appeared in two major American films: The Sicilian by Michael Cimino and Ridley Scott's The Man in the background. Since then Katsulas had numerous appearances in film and television. Among his most famous roles include that of the one-armed villain Sykes in the film Frederic On the run in 1993 and that of the alien Ambassador G'Kar in the science fiction television series Babylon 5, which was produced from 1993 to 1998. For the Babylon 5 TV movie Legend of the Rangers in 2002, he stood for the last time as G'Kar on camera.

On television, he was still seen in many other roles. In the series Star Trek: The Next he appeared in several episodes as the Romulan Commander Tomalak. In the series Star Trek: Enterprise he played in the episode Cogenitor a vissianischen captain. He had more guest appearances including in Spacecop LA, Hunter, Murder, She Wrote, Millennium - Fear thy neighbor as thyself, and New York Cops - NYPD Blue. In 1998, Katsulas together with some of his fellow actors from Babylon 5 on a CD, The BeFive on which he sings two songs.

Andreas Katsulas died on 13 February 2006 at the age of 59 from lung cancer. In the Babylon 5 DVD The Lost Tales of the obituary of some colleagues and the director Joseph Michael Straczynski is to find in which some anecdotes are told from the time on the set of Babylon 5.
