Andreas Kneller

Andreas Kneller (also: Kniller, blockbuster, Knoller; * April 23, 1649 in Lübeck, † August 24, 1724 in Hamburg ) was a German composer and representatives of the North German organ school.

Andreas Kneller comes from a family of artists. Both Andreas ' famous older brother Sir Godfrey Kneller and the father Zacharias Kniller were painters. 1667 Kneller was appointed successor to the organist Melchior Schildt at the Market Church in Hanover. On December 1, 1685, he was elected to the proposal Johann Adam Reincken as successor to J. Schade organist at Hamburg's St. Peter's Church. The following year, he married the daughter Reincken, Margaretha Maria. 1723 he was in favor of his son Jakob Henke, who worked there as a deputy organist since 1717, retired. Kneller died a year later at the age of 75 years.

Works

Like many other composers of the North German organ school are also designed by Andreas Kneller today only few compositions known. Reported are:

  • Three complete Preludes ( in F major, G major and D minor ) and some fragments, as well as
  • Partita in eight variations on " Nun komm der Heiden Heiland ".
