Andreas Matt

Andreas " Andy " Matt (* 19 October 1982 in Zams ) is an Austrian freestyle skiers. The younger brother of alpine Skirennläufers and former world champion Mario Matt is active in the freestyle ski cross discipline. It was 2009 world champion in this discipline, in 2010 won the silver medal at the Olympics, 2011 World Cup bronze and the World Cup.

Biography

Andreas Matt is a carpenter by trade and was in his youth snowboarders. After his three- year older brother Mario had won in January 2000, surprising the slalom in Kitzbuehel, Andreas began to go skiing and training seriously. He took part in smaller national races and was in the January 2003 precursor in the women's World Cup race on Patscherkofel. A little later he was discovered by the former Austrian alpine skier and Salomon Racing Director Günther Mader for the freestyle skiing ski cross discipline.

In the 2003 / 04 season, Matt drove for the first time in the freestyle skiing World Cup, and reached in his second race in 27th, the first World Cup points. After two rather mixed winters with only one place in the top 15, he drove in the 2006/07 season to the ranks seven and ten, and arrived at the freestyle skiing World Cup 2007 in Madonna di Campiglio to the small final and finished at the end of rank six. His first podium in the World Cup, he reached the final race of the 2007/08 season with third place in Valmalenco.

The final breakthrough the world leaders he succeeded in winter 2008 /09. Matt drove in the first World Cup race of the season in St. Johann in Tirol, ranked second behind the Swiss Mike Schmid and won a few days later, on 10 January 2009 in Les Contamines his first race in World Cup ski cross. In addition, there follow a third place in Myrkdalen - Voss. He celebrated his biggest success on 2 March 2009 at the World Championships in Japan Inawashiro, where he won the gold medal ahead of teammate Thomas Zangerl. The last two races of the season he could no longer deny that he possibly sustain a pelvic contusion in qualifying for the ski cross racing in Meiringen- Hasliberg. In ski cross World Cup, he finished sixth.

The following 2009/10 season did not start as you wish, but Matt could always continue to increase and eventually won on 20 January 2010 in Blue Mountain his second World Cup race. For this purpose, followed by a second place finish in Lake Placid behind the Canadians Christopher Del Bosco. A month later, on 21 February, Matt won the silver medal in ski cross at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He finished all races to second place in the Grand Final and was finally defeated by Mike Schmid.

On January 29, 2011 Matt won his third World Cup race Grasgehren and drove as World Cup leader at the Freestyle World Championships at Deer Valley Resort, in the U.S. state of Utah, where he won the bronze medal with his second World Championship medal on February 4. He was beaten in the final Christopher Del Bosco and the Finn Jouni Pellinen. On March 3, Matt won in Grindelwald for the fourth time in the World Cup. Three days later, he secured his place in 2 Hasliberg prematurely the ski cross discipline standings. This success is underpinned Matt with another victory on March 13 in the Swedish Branäs. With a fifth place in the last race of the season on March 19 in Myrdalen - Voss he lost the battle for the big crystal globe for the Freestyle World Cup victory at the moguls driver Guilbaut Colas, of it in the same place reached during the day the necessary victory. In the season 2011/12 Matt was at World Cup races on the podium three times, including once as a winner.
