Andreas Menger

Andreas Menger ( born September 11, 1972 in Berlin ) is a former German football goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach.

Playing career

Menger began playing football at Tennis Borussia Berlin. He came as a B -teenager to SSV Reutlingen 05, as his father had found a new job in Tübingen. He then went through the A- youth, before he moved to SSV Ulm 1846 in the Oberliga Baden- Württemberg in 1991.

With his new club, he won the 1992 WFV Cup, the DFB - Pokal 1992/93 amateur team reached the third round. In the season 1993/94 he reached with the team as the leader of the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga. However, behind the FSV Frankfurt, she missed the return to the second division, the "Sparrow " but qualified for the newly created Regional and again won the WFV Cup.

However, Menger retired from the Swabian, the club management to Edgar Burkart convinced him of a change for SpVgg Fürth. In the Regional he placed with the team in the front league area. In 1996, the accession of the TSV Vestenbergsgreuth, which earned the coach Armin Veh to choose between the goalies Günther Reichhold and Menger. The good performance of Menger had aroused the interest of higher class, in the summer of 1997, signed him the 1st FC Cologne. The club was less than a year after the change of Bodo Illgner to Real Madrid still on the search for a lasting solution to the goalkeeper position. Menger sat down quickly as the number one and stayed through the entire season goalkeeper, but at the end of which stood the first descent of the club in the Second Bundesliga.

During the winter break 98/99 Menger went to the first division club MSV Duisburg, where he was a reserve goalkeeper behind Gintaras Stauce first and played twice only towards the end of the season. In the following season, Menger and Stauce in the Duisburg goal alternated, with Menger came to ten inserts.

After the descent of the " zebras " end of the season 1999/2000 his engagement there had ended. In the following winter break, he was taken from Eintracht Frankfurt under contract.

Coaching career

In the immediate continuation of Menger took over at Eintracht the post of goalkeeper coach and remained so six years. For the 2011/2012 season moved Menger for VfB Stuttgart, where he also is goalkeeping coach since then. On January 8, 2013 Andreas Menger extended his contract at VfB until the end of June 2016.
