Andreas Raelert

Andreas Raelert ( born August 11, 1976 in Rostock ) is a German professional triathlete, triathlon Europe champion middle distance ( 2012), multiple Ironman winners and runners-up to the Ironman distance (2012 ). He is in the Hall of Fame German triathletes ( men) out on the Ironman distance.

Sports career

Raelert began his athletic career already at preschool age as a defined benefit swimmers. In 1992 he moved to the sport of triathlon in the TC FIKO Rostock. Already in the years that followed, he was able to draw attention to themselves with very good results and was subsequently appointed to the German national team in 1993.

Raelerts strength is its balance in all three sports. After graduation in 1996 he was appointed to the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Mainz, where he remained until 2009. He starts for the EJOT Team TV Buschhütten. His younger brother Michael Raelert is an active triathlete.

He is next to Jan Frodeno (2008, 2012) and Maik Petzold (2004, 2012) of the third male triathlete, who has already represented Germany at the Olympic Games twice. So he reached in Sydney / Australia 2000 12th place and 6th place in Athens in 2004

2005 Andreas Raelert started a correspondence course in business administration at the University of Hagen. In 2009 he reached at the World Championships in Hawaii as the best German in third. In the race, he ran for a long time along with the eventual winner Craig Alexander; he made in his first race in Hawaii, and his total of only third Ironman race on the long distance directly on the podium.

He was for some years a member of the German Triathlon team and Andreas Raelert was adopted by his move to the long distance from the German national team in October 2009. He now lives in Rostock.

2010 Andreas Raelert won the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt. After a good swim performance he was able to extend his lead on the bike. Despite prolonged distance (5 km longer due to construction ) he put the wheel on a new course record ( 4:20:35 hours) and changed over 10 minutes ahead of the running track. In Hawaii, he was then in October 2010 Ironman World Championship runner-.

On 10 July 2011, he undercut with his victory in the Challenge Roth, only a week before achieved world record of the Belgian Marino Vanhoencker by almost five minutes and since then holds the world record for the long distance with 7:41:33 hours. He also improved the long-distance world record in cycling over 180 miles of nearly two and a half minutes to 4:11:43 hours. This brand has been improved on November 3, 2012 by Andrew Starykowicz from the USA at the Ironman Florida in 4:04:39.

In June 2012, he was Triathlon European champion middle distance and in October in Hawaii vice-champion at the Ironman distance.
