Andreas Schmidt (baritone)

Andreas Schmidt ( * June 30, 1960 in Dusseldorf ) is a German bass-baritone.

Life

Andreas Schmidt studied Protestant church music with his father Hartmut Schmidt (B- exam ) and singing with Ingeborg Reichelt and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

In 1984 he celebrated his operatic debut as Malatesta in " Don Pasquale " at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and soon became a permanent member of the house. As a guest, he joined at the Hamburg State Opera, the Berlin State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Grand Theatre of Geneva, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Paris Opera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, La Scala Milan and the Metropolitan Opera on. Andreas Schmidt has performed with almost all the leading European orchestras.

As an oratorio singer, he has performed under the direction of Peter Schreier, John Eliot Gardiner and other famous conductors. Even as a speaker he appears occasionally in appearance. By 2010 he was a professor of singing at the Dresden University of Music Carl Maria von Weber. Since 2010 he has held a professorship at the Musikhochschule in Munich.
