Andreas Thom

Andreas Thom ( born September 7, 1965 in Ruedersdorf in Berlin) is a former German football player and current coach.

Career as a player

Thom played for BFC Dynamo in the GDR Oberliga and was with the East Berliners under coach Jürgen Bogs 1984-1988 five times in a row East German champion. In addition, the striker in 1988 and 1989 won the fdgb Cup. In 1988 he was top scorer in the GDR Oberliga and also elected Footballer of the Year. In the East German national team, he played 1984-1990 51 times and scored 16 goals.

His first international appearance was the 18 -year-old Thom in November 1983 in the European Cup game at Partizan Belgrade after his colleague later coach of Hertha BSC, Falko Goetz, had been withdrawn from the team and therefore a place by storm was free.

As the first player in the GDR Oberliga Andreas Thom joined in January 1990 in the Bundesliga. For a transfer fee of 2.5 million D- Mark, he went from DDR giants Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He made his debut on 17 February 1990 for the Leverkusen when he came to Homburg in a catch-up game for use. Here he also scored the goal for 1-0. Until 1995, he played for Leverkusen and formed with the Dynamo Dresden also exchanged early in the Bundesliga Ulf Kirsten together a very successful Storm Duo (161 Bundesliga games, 37 goals). With Leverkusen in Berlin, he won the DFB Cup in 1993 against the amateurs of Hertha BSC. From 1995 to 1997 he was a guest at Celtic Glasgow in Scotland, before he returned to Berlin and - now in West Berlin - Hertha BSC (51 Bundesliga games, 5 goals) played.

For the German national football team, he played until 1994, ten international matches and scored two goals. One of these he shot a few seconds after coming off the bench in his debut game in December 1990 against Switzerland, which was also the first game of the " all-German " team after reunification. He was Vice-European Champion in 1992 with the team at the European Championships in Sweden.

Career as a coach

After the replacement of Huub Stevens at Hertha BSC Thom was briefly head coach before Hans Meyer replaced him and Hertha saved them from relegation. Thom was an assistant coach and held this position under the new coach Falko Goetz. On 10 April 2007 he was released along with idol because of persistent failure.

On 15 December 2008 it was announced that Thom from 5 January 2009 will co- coach of third division Holstein Kiel under Falko Goetz. 2009 succeeded as master of the Regionalliga Nord, the rise in the 3rd league. After the dismissal of Götz Thom remained under new coach Christian Wück the club faithful.

On February 15, 2010, Holstein Kiel then separated by Andreas Thom. The reason the club called a disturbed relationship of trust between the former football player and the team.

Since the season 2010/11 he manages the Under-17 team of Hertha BSC.
