Andreas Vokos Miaoulis

Andreas Miaoulis Andreas Vokos Miaulis or Andreas Miaoulis Bokos, (Greek Ανδρέας Βώκος Μιαούλης, * May 20, 1769, † 24 June 1835 in Piraeus ) was a Greek admiral.

Miaoulis was born as Andreas Vokos either in Euboea or on the island of Hydra as a child of an ethnic Albanian family. The surname Miaoulis he lay down only to an adult. His career began Miaoulis in shipping. At the age of 16, he commanded a family-owned ship. After he had acquired a considerable fortune by grain trade, he settled on Hydra. In 1821 he joined the Greek Revolution and participated with his ship Leonidas on all expeditions that year.

Appointed commander of the Greek fleet, he won on 5 and 6 March at Patras and on September 20, 1822 in Port of Spezzia and destroyed on May 12, 1825 a part of in the harbor of Modon enemy fleet. But he died at the age of 66 years on 24 June 1835 in Piraeus. At the request of the Greek Government his grave at the named after him Akti Miaoulis ( Miaoulis Coast ) was adorned with a monument. His einbalsmiertes heart is preserved in the Museum of Hydra. His remains were transferred in 1986 to Hydra.

The later Prime Minister Nikolaos Miaoulis Anasthasios († 1867 in Paris ) was one of Miaoulis ' sons.
