Andreas von Gundelsheimer

Andreas von Gundelsheimer (* 1668 in damp cheeks, † May 17, 1715 in Stettin) was a German physician, botanist and explorer in the service of the French King Louis XIV 's personal physician and Prussian kings.

Life

Gundelsheimer was born as the son of the chaplain of wet cheeks, Michael Gundelsheimer. He studied in Altdorf near Nuremberg medicine. After receiving his doctorate in 1688, he spent several years in Venice, then moved to Paris and Joseph Pitton de Tournefort and accompanied the painter Claude Aubriet 1700-1702 on a research trip to Asia Minor and Armenia. After his return, he moved in 1703 to Berlin, where King Friedrich I. appointed him his personal physician. He held this position under the successor, King Frederick William I stopped. He died while he accompanied his king to Stettin, at the age of 47 years.

Services

The variety of data collected by him during the expedition plants were ever left to the herbarium in Berlin and Munich in half. Besides his activity as a royal Prussian court and body Medicus Andreas has rendered outstanding services of Gundelsheimer also to the establishment of the Anatomical Theatre in Berlin.
