Andreas Wellinger

Andreas Wellinger ( born August 28, 1995 Ruhpolding ) is a German ski jumper who competes for the SC Ruhpolding. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014, he became Olympic champion in the team competition.

Career

Wellinger was 2002-2010 Nordic combiner is ski jumper since February 2011 and belongs to the C- squad of the German national team. In 2009 he was second in the overall standings of the students Cups. In October 2009, he won the Schülercup. The OPA Games 2010 he finished third in Nordic combined. In March 2010 he came in second place in the Schülercup. In September 2011, he jumped to the third and second in the Germany Cup. A month later, he won the Alpine Cup, was created in December fifth and won the Germany Cup in the same month. At the German Championships 2011 Junior in Hinterzarten he jumped to fifth place and was with the team ninth. In the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 he won the gold medal with the mix (jump / composite) team. In individual competition, he became a fourth. In the summer of 2012 at the FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup 2012/13 it reached a respective first, second and third place. At the German Championships 2012 in Klingenthal he finished fifth and was German champion with the team.

Since the start of the 2012/13 season starts Wellinger in the World Cup. Already in his first World Cup on November 24, 2012, he finished fifth after he led after the first passage. Just under a week after his World Cup debut Wellinger celebrated his first World Cup victory in the team competition while jumping on the Rukatunturi hill in Kuusamo with the German team. He played a big part in the victory of his team, as he scored the highest score of all jumpers. On December 9, 2012, he reached with a third place on the normal hill ski jumping complex of Russki at Sochi Gorky his first World Cup podium finish in an individual event. A week later, on December 16, 2012, he achieved a second place on the Gross- Titlis -Schanze in Engelberg his best individual score in the World Cup, which he set in the following season in the Vogtland Arena in Klingenthal.

At the Junior World Championships 2013 in Liberec, he won the bronze medal with the German team in the team competition. In individual he finished fifth.

On August 3, 2013 Wellinger celebrated his first individual victory at the highest competition level in Polish Wisła within the Summer Grand Prix. Two weeks later, the next victory in Courchevel. With the win, jumping in Klingenthal on October 3, he pushed Jernej Damjan from square one, winning the third German ski jumper Sven by Hanna Wald ( 1999) and Andreas Wank ( 2012) the overall ranking of the Summer Grand Prix.

His first World Cup victory he celebrated on January 16, 2014 also on the jump in Wisła. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, he reached the sixth place on the normal hill. On February 17, 2014 Wellinger was along with Andreas Wank, Marinus Kraus and Severin Freund Olympic champion in the team competition.
