Andreas Winter

Andreas Winter ( born June 14, 1971 in Mühldorf ) is a mathematician and mathematical physicist at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona ( UAB ). He received his doctorate in 1999 with Rudolf Ahlswede and Friedrich Götze at the University of Bielefeld, before he moved to the University of Bristol and then to the Centre for Quantum Technologies ( CQT ) at the National University of Singapore. 2013 he was appointed ICREA Research Professor in Barcelona.

Professor Winters research focus is on quantum information theory. His main contributions concern the study of quantum communication protocols, coding theory for quantum channels and the entanglement of quantum states. He is the co-discoverer of a method for combining non-local quantum states (state - merging ). It was thus demonstrated that quantum information can take on negative values .

To him, the Philip Leverhulme Prize for Mathematics and Statistics and 2012, the Whitehead Prize from the London Mathematical Society in 2008 was awarded.
