Andreas Zeier Cappelen

Andreas Zeier Cappelen ( born January 31, 1915 in Vang, Oppland, † September 2, 2008 in Stavanger ) was a Norwegian lawyer and politician of Arbeiderpartiet, who was several times minister in various Norwegian governments.

Life

After schooling Cappelen studied law and graduated in 1939 from. After the end of World War II he was in 1945 acting prosecutor for the trial of criminal cases in Rogaland treason and held that office until 1947.

At the same time he began his political career in local politics and was 1945-1947 as representative of the Workers' Party ( Arbeiderpartiet ) was the first member of the City Council of Stavanger. Subsequently, he was 1947-1958 City Counsel and Director of the wage department of the Municipality of Stavanger and additionally 1957-1958 eunuch. In addition, he was from 1952 to 1957 again a member of the City Council of Stavanger.

In 1958 he was appointed by Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen Minister of Municipal and work in the third government and was last in this government in 1963 also Minister of Finance.

After only four weeks of bourgeois minority government of Prime Minister John Lyng Cappelen was appointed on 25 September 1963 by Prime Minister Gerhardsen in its fourth government, to which he belonged until 12 October 1965.

After he again city counsel and director was the reward section of the city Stavanger 1966-1967, he was a member from 1968 to 1971 again to the City Council as a member of Stavanger. He also was the 1969 and 1981 President of the District Court of Stavanger and at the same time from 1971 to 1977 Member of the Board of Norges Bank, Norway's central bank.

On March 17, 1971 Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli appointed him foreign minister in the first government which he served until the end of Brattelis term of office on 18 October 1972. Between 1979 and 1980 he was also the Minister of Justice in the cabinet of Prime Minister Odvar Nordli and later 1984-1991 was member of the City Council of Stavanger.

Andreas Zeiler Cappelen was a younger brother of the politician Hans Johan Zeier Cappelen and the diplomat Johan Zeier Cappelen.
