Andreas Zelinka

Andreas Zelinka ( born February 23, 1802 in Wischau, Moravia, † November 21, 1868 in Vienna) was from 1861 to 1868 mayor of Vienna.

Life

Andreas Zelinka attended high school and Philosophicum in Brno. From 1821 to 1825 he studied law at the University of Vienna, 1829, he received a doctorate in law. From 1831 was Andreas Zelinka medical commissioner, then worked as a lawyer. In 1848 he was elected to the Vienna City Council, its vice- president, he was in 1849. In 1850 he was awarded the Franz -Joseph- Orden. From 1861 to 1868, he was mayor of Vienna, 1862 and Member of the State Parliament of Lower Austria and since 1867 a member of the manor. In his time planning the First Vienna Mountain Spring Pipeline, the regulation of the Danube and the Vienna Central Cemetery fell. 1865, the ring road was partially opened.

His annual salary of 12,000 guilders he spent entirely for alms and donations. From the Viennese he was affectionately called Papa Zelinka.

In 1869 in Vienna Inner City (1st district) was named the Zelinkagasse after him.

His grave is located at the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 14A, number 16).
