Andrei Stackenschneider

Andrei Ivanovich Stackenschneider, Russian Андрей Иванович Штакеншнейдер, (born 22 Februarjul / March 6 1802greg in Gatchina, .. .. † 8 Augustjul / August 20 1865greg in Moscow) was a famous Russian architect of the 19th century.

Biography

Stack Schneider, the son of a miller with German ancestry, studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Later, he taught for many years as professor of architecture at the Art Academy. Since 1825 Stackenschneider architectural draftsman was in the Commission for the construction of St. Isaac's Cathedral under the direction of Auguste de Mont Ferrand. In 1833 Stackenschneider was appointed court architect and undertook from 1837 to 1838 a study tour of Italy, France, England and Germany. In 1844 he was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas I for the construction of farm buildings in St. Petersburg.
