Andrei Stratan

Andrei Stratan ( born September 3, 1966 in Chişinău ) is a Moldovan diplomat and politician. From 2004 to 2009 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of his country.

Andrei Stratan studied from 1983 to 2000 at the Economics Faculty of the Polytechnic Institute of Chişinău, and the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova. He has a PhD in economics. After completing his studies, he first worked from 1991 in the Customs Administration of the Republic of Moldova - it short time still under Soviet rule. 2002, now promoted to chairman of the State Customs Service, he joined as an ambassador with special duties to the State Department. Among other things, he was here as the national coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, Moldova is a member. In June 2003 he was promoted to first deputy foreign minister and was finally on 4 February 2004 Foreign Minister of Moldova itself. Since December 2004, was also deputy head of government. After the narrow election defeat of the communists in the parliamentary elections in July 2009, he was replaced by Iurie Leanca in September 2009.

Stratan speaks his native language, Russian and English. He is married and has two children.
