Andrej Bajuk

Andrej Bajuk ( born October 18, 1943 in Ljubljana, † 16 August 2011) was a Slovenian politician, Minister of Finance and Prime Minister of his country.

He was also between 2000 and 2008 President of New Slovenia. After the elections in October 2004, a new government headed by Janez Janša was formed in Bajuk held the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

Life

His family, who worked with the Slovenian Home Guards ( Domobranci ), fled after the takeover by the Communists to Argentina. Bajuk completed economic studies at the Universities of Mendoza and Chicago, graduating with a doctorate at the University of Berkeley. After that, he held various positions at the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, before he moved to Slovenia in 1999.

Bajuk spearheaded the bill for the privatization of Slovenian banks. He was between May and November 2000, after a government crisis for a short time Prime Minister. After the elections in 2004, he took over the government Janša the post of finance minister. After his party " New Slovenia " was not able to combine the required vote share for a place in the Slovenian National Assembly on themselves in the 2008 elections, he declared 21 September 2008 his resignation as party leader.
