Andrej Mitrović

Andrej Mitrovic ( born April 17, 1937 in Kragujevac, † August 26, 2013 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslavian- Serbian historian.

Life

Mitrovic studied at the University of Belgrade history and received his doctorate there. From 1980 he taught there as a full professor. He ran until his retirement in the Department of Modern History at the University of Belgrade. He lived in Belgrade. His research focused on the history of the Balkans and Yugoslavia and their relationships with the history of Europe.

He was from 1999 to 2002 Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German -Serb Michael Zikic Foundation based in Bonn. During this time he was also a board member of the Zikic Foundation, since 2005, he was Honorary Chairman of the Foundation.

Awards

Mitrovic was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and since 1988 a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
