Andrew Cyrille

Andrew Cyrille ( born November 10, 1939 in the Bronx, New York City ) is an American jazz drummer.

Life and work

After private lessons, among others, Philly Joe Jones, he worked with Roland Hanna, Illinois Jacquet or Roland Kirk since the late 1950s. Since 1965 he has played for ten years in the group of Cecil Taylor. Then he has his own group with David S. Ware founded, came at the 1976 Wildflowers Loft Sessions on, toured with Carla Bley and played with the ensembles of Anthony Braxton. Marilyn Crispell, Reggie Workman, Horace Tapscott and David Murray. He continued to take on plates with James Newton, Peter Brötzmann, with Richard Teitelbaum and with Irène Schweizer.

In its playful design abstraction is also one such conventional jazz and African influenced music. He is a drummer who always thinks compositionally and keeps track of the musical events.
