Andrew Fabian
Andrew Christopher Fabian ( born February 20, 1948) is a British astronomer and astrophysicist.
Fabian leads the X-ray astronomy group at the Institute of Astronomy at Cambridge University. His current research focuses on clusters of galaxies, active galactic nuclei and black holes and the cosmic X-ray background. Earlier, Fabian has also engaged in X-ray binaries, neutron stars and supernova remnants.
He is one of the discoverers greatly broadened emission lines of iron from the immediate surroundings of black holes in active galactic nuclei. He is one of the most important representatives of the idea that parts of the hot gas in clusters of galaxies in cooling flows would cool quickly, and examines the role of active galactic nuclei as energy sources for the observed suppression of this process.
