Andrew Gregory Grutka

Andrew Gregory Grutka ( born November 17, 1908 in Joliet, Illinois, USA; † 11 November 1993) was the first bishop of Gary.

Life

Andrew Gregory Grutka received on 5 December 1933, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On December 29, 1956, he was named by Pope Pius XII. the first bishop of Gary. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Giovanni Cicognani Amleto, donated to him on 25 February 1957, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Kansas City -Saint Joseph, John Cody, and the Bishop of Fort Wayne, Leo Aloysius Pursley.

On July 9, 1984, Pope John Paul II accepted the argument put forward by Andrew Gregory Grutka resignation for reasons of age.
