Andrew H. Ward

Andrew Harrison Ward ( born January 3, 1815 to Cynthiana, Kentucky, † April 16, 1904 ) was an American politician. Between 1866 and 1867 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Andrew Ward attended the public schools of his home and then the Transylvania University in Lexington. He then worked for several years as a clerk on a steamboat on the Tombigbee River. After a subsequent law degree in 1844 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in Cynthiana in this profession. In 1860 he was the legal representative of the place.

Politically, Ward was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1861 he applied unsuccessfully to have the election in the House of Representatives from Kentucky. Between 1863 and 1865 he was then a deputy in the Parliament chamber. In 1864 he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives. After the resignation of Mrs Green Clay Smith Ward was at the election due in the sixth constituency of Kentucky as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on December 3, 1866. Since he did not run in the regular congressional elections of 1866, he could only finish the current legislative period to March 3, 1867.

After the end of his time in Congress Ward practiced as a lawyer again. Later he became president of the National Bank of Cynthiana. Andrew Ward died on April 16, 1904 in his hometown of Cynthiana.
