Andrew Hacker

Andrew Hacker ( born 1929 ) is an American political scientist and publicist.

Currently, he is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Political Science at Queens Collegein New York. Until graduation, he studied at Amherst College. He then worked at Oxford University, the University of Michigan, and Princeton University where he received his doctorate.

His latest book Higher Education? created in collaboration with Claudia Dreifus, his partner. Professor Hacker publishes regularly in the New York Review of Books ( NYRB ). In his articles he questioned whether higher mathematics in schools is necessary, and notes: ". Making mathematics as a compulsory subject prevents us from discovering talented young people and promote " (, NYTimes, 2012 " Is Algebra Necessary? ").
