Andrew L. Lewis, Jr.

Andrew " Drew " Lindsay Lewis, Jr. ( born November 3, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Republican Party, former Minister of Transport of the United States as well as economic managers.

Biography

After attending the High School of Norristown, he studied at Haverford College and received there in 1953 a Bachelor of Science (BS ). A subsequent post-graduate studies in business administration at Harvard Business School, he graduated in 1955 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA ) from. In addition, he completed another post-graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

After several years as a manager in the private sector, he was appointed to his cabinet on 23 January 1981 by U.S. President Ronald Reagan to the Minister of Transport (U.S. Secretary of Transportation). This cabinet post he held until February 1, 1983. Besides, he was for a time Vice- Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Subsequently, he was again active in the private sector and was 1986-2000 Member of the Board of American Express. In addition, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of Union Pacific Railroad, as well as board member of the Campbell Soup Company, Ford Motors, Lucent Technologies, MTV Networks. Andrew L. Lewis is since 1989 member of the board of AT & T, and since 1995 by Gannett.

Lewis fell several times for driving under the influence of psychoactive substances and had to by arrests in 1995 and on 23 July 2001 to undergo an alcohol withdrawal.
