Andrew (MBTA-Station)

Andrew is the name of a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Boston's South Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the line Red Line.

History

The station was opened by Andrew on 29 June 1918 as the last station on the southern end of the Cambridge - Dorchester Tunnel. She was up to the opening of the stations Columbia Savin Hill and Fields Corner in 1927, the terminus of the Red Line. From 1990 to 1993 it was fully renovated.

Building

The Metro Station is located on the eponymous Andrew Square at the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Southampton Street. He is completely accessible.

Inside the building is an art in public space in the artwork " Andrew Square Time Capsule " by Ross Miller. It consists of a table, four chairs, and 14 boxes of stainless steel and was hung up on the tracks. The boxes contain things that were collected from passengers during renovations in the 1990s. They are scheduled to open in 2068 again - 75 years after their installation. Also worth seeing is the same for art project owned, fully restored funicular ticket office, which was placed on the crossing to change the direction of travel.

There are connections to seven bus lines of the MBTA at the station. Are the Carson Beach, the University of Massachusetts Boston, the Boston Medical Center and the Boston Harbor Walk in the immediate vicinity.
