Andrew Newell (skier)

Andrew Newell ( born November 30, 1983 in Bennington, Vermont) is an American cross-country skier.

Andrew Newell lives in Shaftsbury and starts for the Stratton Mountain School. He made his debut a week before his 18th birthday at a Continental Cup race in Vernon ( 48 ). At the national championships in 2001 in McCall, he already reached the seventh place in the sprint, two months later at the Canadian Championships in Valcartier, he won the silver medal. In Schonach he joined in 2001 the first time at a World Youth Championship. After he was second in the sprint qualifying, he was in the race at the end of eight. A year later, in Sollefteå ran the competition exactly the same, only Newell improved at the end of a course. For shortly afterwards held Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme, he was in his first start in the sprint in Rumford 31 he won in early 2004 for the first time the U.S. title of the Sprint Master. By mid- February, the young Americans stepped away from the national and international title fights only in the Continental Cup and FIS races. His World Cup debut came in the sprint in Stockholm, where he was 43.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf, he competed in sprint ( 12 ) and team sprint ( 14 ). At the national championships in Snow Farm Newell won silver behind Torin Koos. This he achieved in the Team Sprint of Canmore in December 2005 for the first time with a ninth place ranking in the top ten of the World Cup. The following January, he was even fourth in the sprint from Oberstdorf. At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, he started a very successful and was second in the sprint qualification. In the race he was only 16 in the post-Olympic sprint in Changchun, he was third on the podium for the first time. At the U.S. Championships in Houghton saw him win Kris Freeman again the silver medal. So far (as of 1 November 2007) Newell won six races of the Continental Cups, three races of the FIS, two races of the Australia / New Zealand Cup and three races of Nordamirika Cup. In the Sprint World Cup, he finished second in the 2005/06 season eighth place in the following season in sixth place.
