Andrew Shuman

Andrew Shuman (* 1830, † 1890) was an American politician. Between 1877 and 1881 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Illinois.

Career

The source position on Andrew Shuman is not very productive. From his brother Benjamin 's biography shows that the family originates from Lancaster in Pennsylvania. Andrew was the second of six children of Jacob and Margaret Shuman. About his youth and education, nothing is handed down. At an unknown date he came to Chicago, where he worked in the newspaper business. For many years he edited the newspaper Chicago Evening Journal. Politically, he joined the Republican Party.

In 1876, Shuman was elected to the side of Shelby Moore Cullom for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. This post he held between 8 January 1877 to 10 January 1881. Yet he was assistant to the governor. He died in 1890.
